In order to focus on carbon peak and neutrality and handle plastic pollution, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology enacted The Industrial Green Development Project for the 14th Five-Year Plan. The project is designed to encourage the development of degradable material and strengthen policy guidance in technological creativity and industrial application. The National Development and Reform Commission’ s recent released project of plastic pollution regulation movement for the 14th Five-Year Plan emphasized the need for actively pushing the deduction of plastic manufacturing and use, scientifically and safely promoting the alternative for plastic products and accelerating standardized recycling of plastic waste.
PBAT and PLA are key materials in the research of degradable material in China. Red Avenue provides products from PBAT resin to modified material, as well as products service in full application scenarios of downstream chains. Red Avenue is also participating in drafting multiple national and industrial standards and two national standards have been enacted on November 1st, 2020. The other four standards have been publicized and two of them will be enacted on October 1st this year.
Authority Take the Lead in Setting Out 9 National Standards and 2 Group Standards
Red Avenue is taking the lead in setting out and co-editing the national standards for biodegradable plastics. Preparation Method of Plastic Material Biodegradable Experimental Samples and another set of standards have been enacted by State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China on November 1st, 2020. Four regulations including Plastics-Specifications for Plastics Suitable for Home Composting have been publicized and two of them will take effect on October 1st 2021. The remaining two regulations will come into force on March 1st 2022.
Moreover, Red Avenue is a primary member in drafting two group standards: Biodegradable Polybutylene Adipate (PBAT) for Shanghai Society for Advanced Materials and PBAT/Special Material for Calcium Carbonate Film for Shenzhen Polymer Industry Association.
Research and Development
High-End Full Biodegradable Plastic Products
Based on independent research and development, Red Avenue is focusing on enhancing creativity and developing patented technology and independent intellectual property rights. Under the leadership of our principal scientist academician Xuesi Chen, we now have more than 100 research staff members. Up to June 30th 2021, we have accumulated 429 intellectual property patent applications, among which 301 applications are utility patent applications and 126 applications are utility model patent. Red Avenue has also authorized 263 effective patent properties.
Dr. Yanchao Zhao said: “We have been trying to improve our standard system, unify inspection requirements, complement standards for products and methods, ensure the implementation of policies and industrial distribution and develop and produce high-end complete bio-degradable plastic products, driving the high-quality progress of bio-degradable material industry.”

At the same time, Red Avenue is also a council member of Degradable Plastics Committee of China Plastics Processing Industry Association and deputy council member of Shanghai New Materials Association Degradable materials and Recycling Technology Professional Committee.
High-End Application
Focus on carbon peak and neutrality
At present, Red Avenue is working with BASF to build PBAT programs in China. PBAT produced with the Polyester process of BASF has several advantages such as low acid value, controlled degradation, large single-line capacity and stable product quality. Red Avenue is continuing to research and develop downstream modification process. We believe with the study and exploration of professional research teams, it will become one of the best alternatives as a solution for the pollution of disposable plastics.
Our annual production program of 100,000-ton biodegradable material (first stage) has started smoothly. Equipment procurement has basically been completed and it is estimated the installment of machinery will be finished within this year and the precommissioning will take off at the start of 2022. We will actively expand high-end applications to develop membrane modification materials with high added value used in food packaging, high-end product packaging. Our business partners, who are mostly industry leaders, include large FMCG terminals and packaging-solution providers at home and abroad. We are already engaged in conversations with domestic and international enterprises on supply agreements in 2022. Part of the raw materials resin and modified materials of PBAT have been pre-sold. Objectives of sales plan after reaching target output have also been set.

As a member of Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), Red Avenue insists on innovation and focus on circular economy, actively responding to our country’ s strategies and decisions and participating in setting industrial standards. Red Avenue strives to dedicate our power and brain to our country’ s carbon peak and neutrality plan and will continue to support Global Sustainable Development Initiative, contributing to environmental protection while boosting economy.
